Tour of Gothenburg City!

Top of the hill church
This morning we went on a tour of Gothenburg on a tour bus with a lovely tour guide. Taking the tour of Gothenburg was an excellent way to get a glimpse of everything there is to do and see in the city. We started off the tour by making a stop at this Protestant church that was built in 1914 and is located at the top of a big hill. The site of the church is the first and the last scene that everyone coming and going to Gothenburg sees. Because the church is on top of this big hill, it has an outstanding view of the entire city below. You get to see all the different buildings, waterways, and bridges all at once from a perfect angle. It was very windy at the top of the hill which made it pretty difficult to take pictures, but the view was well worth it.

Fish Church
Our next stop on the tour was to the Fish Church which isn't an actual church, but is an actual fish market. It is called the Fish Church due to its building which closely resembles the look and design of a church. It is located right on the canal that goes through Gothenburg. Inside the Fish Church there were so many different varieties of seafood. The smell was very strong at first, but it only took a few minutes to get used to it. Inside you have the option to order lunch or dinner and take it home, or you could stay there and eat. After the Fish Church we drove through the city and got to see the only piece left of the wall that was built long ago to keep Denmark out of Sweden. On the tour we got to see the Ullevi which is the largest outdoor Stadium in Sweden. It is a very popular place for football and some entertainment as well. We drove past the largest movie theater which actually doesn't look very big at all, but that is because most of it is actually underground. The outside of the building is very modern looking.

Statue of Poseidon
We passed by many different museums that I plan on making a visit to because they all have interesting displays and exhibits! There is a very well known amusement park in Gothenburg called Liseberg. It is very interesting because the amusement park is kind of located on a bunch of hills. There is a carousel that is right on top of a hill and I can only imagine how great the view is from it. Towards the end of the tour we made a stop at the biggest symbol of Gothenburg; a statue of Poseidon. Poseidon is the Greek god of water so this statue is a perfect fit for the city of Gothenburg which is located right by the water and is a major seaport.
We made a visit to Haga which is the oldest vicinity in Gothenburg. The streets are still cobblestone and there are no cars allowed which gives it a very nice touch. The streets are flooded with little cafes, coffee shops, and stores. Our final stop was to the legendary Cafe Husaren which is located in Haga. This cafe is a small little spot that is known for their giant cinnamon rolls. They can feed four people very easily and they were pretty good. They look more like pretzels and are easier to eat because they are not greasy at all. Instead they are a very light snack when you share it with your friends.
Daily Reflections:
- playgrounds in Sweden have sand instead of wood chips (similar to Germany)
- a lot of buildings in Sweden have orange or red roofs
- the roads in Sweden are very curvy and hilly
- buildings are built right into the side of rocks which gives a very natural and earthy touch
- very big mix of old and modern buildings here in Gothenburg
