First Night in Sweden!

Gate at O'hare
We landed! The flight was long and fairly crowded, but after a few short naps here and there we finally made it to Copenhagen. The airport in Copenhagen was extremely nice. It was filled with high end shops like Prada and Gucci. The whole design of the airport was very fancy and intriguing. Throughout the airport at Copenhagen and Gothenburg there were multiple Victoria Secrets. All of their Victoria Secrets were like all of our Starbucks in the United States. After reaching Copenhagen we caught our connecting flight to reach Gothenburg. It was a quick flight on a little plane and before long we arrived in Sweden. Although the plane ride was pretty bumpy due to turbulence, it wasn't terrible because it was only about 20 minutes. We ran into a few delays at the airport in Gothenburg, but eventually we were able to leave and drive to the youth hostel to unpack and settle in. The scenery on the drive from the airport to the hostel was beautiful. There were so many hills and ponds or streams of water decorating the landscape. The houses looked really pretty all lit up with lights because it was already dark when we arrived in Gothenburg even though it was only around three.
Pasta Haus
After we took the time to settle in a little bit in our rooms and freshen up, we all got together and had dinner at a very close Italian restaurant right down the street. Our group of 18 had to split up among four tables because we wouldn't be able to all fit at one table. I got some delicious penne pasta with lemon chicken. It might be hard to tell from the picture, but the portion was rather large and I couldn't manage to finish my plate! After dinner we all went for a little stroll down the street to check out all the cafes, shops, bars, and dessert hot spots. When we all decided that we were ready for dessert, we went to a very nice dessert and lunch spot. The dessert portions were huge and we could barely finish them. I tried some of this apple crumble with whipped cream and also some of the vanilla pie dessert. Being all stuffed and slightly jet lagged we decided it would be best if we made our way back to the hostel to explore it a little more and then get to bed.

Daily Reflections:

  • cab drivers in Sweden are definitely worse than in Illinois
  • restaurants here are a lot smaller and very quaint
  • Sweden has a lot of hills and really long stairways outside
